Kitchen Remodel
One of the most captivating kitchen transformations!
Previously owned by the maternal grandmother, who still resided with the family, this home underwent a significant kitchen change. The focus was not only on creating an open-concept kitchen but also on considering overall form and function. This involved planning and setting expectations with the entire family. All agreed to showcase their lovely backyard and enhance the overall brightness of the space.
The original was a small galley kitchen with outdated cabinetry. The homeowners found the space dim and cramped, needing more storage and a communal area for their growing family. The washer and dryer in the kitchen also required relocation options.
The kitchen redesign focused on opening the area and increasing its brightness. The homeowner desired an open-concept kitchen that was warm and welcoming. Addressing storage issues and ensuring window functionality were also crucial. The washer and dryer relocation utilized space from an unused mini bar in the main room, making the laundry units closer to the bedrooms.
The project involved removing a wall between the kitchen and dining room, raising the window in the family room, and replacing windows to match. The kitchen sink and plumbing were repositioned to a new island, and the gas line was moved to a prominent spot. New flooring was seamlessly integrated with the existing one, and all of the flooring was refinished.
The new kitchen, with its Distinctive Showplace Cabinets, features a uniquely custom hood. The Pental Sable countertops and Blanco Precis Truffle under-mount sink add a touch of elegance. The backsplash, a standout feature, is tumbled 3"x6" Dolomite tiles. The Delta Essa faucet is the perfect finishing touch, adding a luxurious and elegant feel to the space.
Project Specs:
Area: 440 square feet
Materials: Showplace Cabinetry, Pental Sable Countertops, Blanco Precis Sink, Delta Fixtures
Duration: 12 weeks
Budget: $86,000
Notes: The project entailed revamping the kitchen, creating a new laundry closet, and refreshing the flooring across the main level (880 SF). Although the structural engineer confirmed that the removed wall was not load-bearing, "exploratory surgery" revealed significant electrical and HVAC components, which were successfully relocated. Plumbing adjustments were made for the kitchen sink and fridge. With the window size alteration, exterior repairs were expected, and new windows were fitted. The kitchen boasted ample cabinetry and required two large slabs for the countertop.
